The letter:

Monday Aug 4th 1903
Near Pskov
Darling little Olga,
Papa and Auntie Olga have gone for a walk in the lovely woods, my old legs hurt too much to walk so I remained at home. Now the rain has at last stopped, we got quite soaked this morning, my new waterproof cape was wet through. We saw lots of soldiers, cavalry, infantry and artillery. The country is very pretty. Whilst we were standing about in a village, the peasants came round us and began talking. One woman asked me how you four were and where I had left you, was it not kind of her? Others gave us bread and salt and picked the nicest flowers they could find in their gardens. I am sowing [sic] away hard for the bazaar. Lots of trains pass us all day long. An old lady of 88 came to see us this morning and brought bread and salt, she lives close by and we want to pay her a visit if we have time. A. Olga has painted a very pretty postcard of Sarov and is going to have it printed. I wonder how you all are, I feel so sad without my sweet little girlies. Be sure to be very good and remember, elbows off of the table, sit straight and cut your meat nicely. I kiss you all very tenderly and Sonia too. Goodbye, darling Child. God bless you. Ever yr. loving old
Mama

You can put this letter into yr. new red case. Try to read it quite alone. Sonia can help you a little. Love to Trina. Be obedient and learn nicely.

Sonnet written for Olga, year 1896

In September 1896, the Imperial couple spent 4 days in France during an official visit. The purpose of the stay was to seal the union of the French Republic and the Russian Empire, the symbol of which was the famous Alexander III Bridge in Paris. The French received the imperial couple with unusual enthusiasm. The Russian theme became fashionable, everything was à la Russe, from the names of the enterprises to the confectionery. Little Olga Nikolaevna accompanied her parents, and her appearances caused enthusiastic responses. In memory of her, many little French girls born in the years 1897-1910 received the name "Olga", which is unusual for France.

The sonnet:

Le Baiser d’Olga
Sonnet
A S. A. I. La grande-duchesse Olga

My precious beloved Mama!
I am so awfully sorry that you are not feeling well. Oh! When will you get better, my sweet Mama? Hope so much that soon. When He will come you will be better and then it will be such a joy and a happy time for me. What did you do these last years my Mama darling, that you are not as well as you were before? It make's me so sad and anxious. I know when our dear Friend will be near us, Mama darling will feel better and not so week as now. Shall pray in Church for God to send you strength. God grant soon you will walk about like always before this year and last year. You asked me yesterday why did I cry, because it make's me to awfully sad to see you so week and tired. Your one tired look make's me feel that you suffer. Good bye sweet Mama. A true kiss from your very own daughter Olga. God bless you, be near you.
