3-го ноября. Пятница.
Вечно памятный для меня день, в течение которого я много-много выстрадал! Еще в час ночи у милой Аликс начались боли, которые не давали ей спать. Весь день она пролежала в кровати в сильных мучениях — бедная! Я не мог равнодушно смотреть на нее. Около 2 ч. дорогая Мама приехала из Гатчины; втроем, с ней и Эллой, находились неотступно при Аликс. В 9 час. ровно услышали детский писк и все мы вздохнули свободно! Богом нам посланную дочку при молитве мы назвали Ольгой! Когда все волнения прошли, и ужасы кончились, началось просто блаженное состояние при сознании о случившемся! Слава Богу, Аликс перенесла рождение хорошо и чувствовала себя вечером бодрою. Поел поздно вечером с Мама и когда лег спать, то заснул моментально!

4-го ноября. Суббота.
Хотя Аликс ночь спала мало, она себя чувствовала хорошо. Очевидно я присутствовал при ванне нашей дочки. Она большой ребенок 10 фунтов весом и 55 сантим. длины. Почти не верится, что это наше дитя! Боже, что за счастье!!! ... Аликс весь день пролежала в mauve room, для перемены воздуха. Она себя чувствовала хорошо, маленькая душка тоже. ...

5-го ноября. Воскресенье.
Ночь была отличная — лихорадки нет. После ванны дочки пошел гулять. ... Аликс опять провела день во второй комнате, дочка лежала с ней рядом.

Была первая проба прикармливания к груди, что окончилось тем, что Аликс очень удачно стала кормить сына кормилицы, а последняя давала молоко Ольге. Пресмешно! ...

Ночь прошла отлично, Аликс спала очень хорошо. ... Аликс днем поспала с дочкой на руках. ... Пил чай у Аликс. ...

Аликс спала отлично. ...

... У дорогой Аликс сняли швы и все шло хорошо. ...

... Пил чай у Аликс. Маленькая спала много и долго и только просыпалась для принятия пищи. ... Вечер, как всегда, провел с моей душкой в спальне. Затем пил со всеми чай в "mauve room".

Встали поздно, поэтому гулял мало. В 11 ч. поехал с Мама к обедне и завтракали у Аликс в первой комнате. ...

Хороший счастливый и ясный день! Перед завтраком дорогой Аликс позволили покинуть постель и перейти на кушетку в mauve room, где она и осталась лежать весь день. ... Пил в одно время чай с Аликс, которая тогда именно кормила маленькую. Читал.

... Писал как вчера у Аликс до чая.

14-го ноября. Вторник.
Утро было светлое и вполне праздничное. В 10¾ нашу дочку повезли в золотой карете в Большой дв. Из серебряной залы началось шествие в церковь; я шел с Мама — княг. М. М. Голицына несла дочку. Сидел один в комнате за церковью, пока происходило крещение. Все обошлось хорошо и маленькая душка вела себя, оказывается, примерно. Обедня окончилась в 1½, а вернулись мы домой только в 2 ч. Обняв Аликс, сел за семейный завтрак.

... Пил чай у Аликс; она провела вечер сначала в кресле, а затем в постели. ...

15-го ноября. Среда.
... Сидел с Аликс пока она кормила; но маленькая не принимается сосать без борьбы, что их обеих, очевидно, утомляет. ... Вечером по обыкновению сидел у Аликс.

... Читал Аликс вслух. У маленькой небольшой насморк.

... Аликс начинает понемногу двигаться и без посторонней помощи. ... Читал Аликс вслух. ...

18-го ноября. Суббота.
Встали довольно рано. В 9¾ поехал на станцию встречать Ерни и Ducky, которых я привез прямо к Аликс. Она едва поспела одеться. Ровно год не видались, а встретились родителями! Поместили их в моих старых комнатах. ... Пили чай вчетвером. Обедали в 3 ч. и вечер провели за разными занятиями.

19-го ноября. Воскресенье.
... Сидел у Аликс, которая каталась в подвижном кресле и даже побывала у меня.

Пили чай и обедали в той же комнате; в первый раз Аликс также кушала с нами, только за особым столиком. Вечером читал.

20-го ноября. Понедельник.
... Аликс в первый раз выехала на кресле и проехалась по всему дворцу до комнат Ерни. ...

... У дорогой Аликс болела спина.

22-го ноября. Среда.
День рождения и именин Миши: ему 17 лет. Довольно занятой день — было два доклада и большой прием. Завтракали кроме своих домочадцев: т. Михень и д. Миша. Почти совсем не видавши Аликс, поехал в Гатчине. Сидел почти все время с Мама.

После чаю занимался в своей маленькой комнатке; так странно было сознавать себя отцом!

Обедали внизу: Ксения, Миша, Сандро и Черевин. Вернулся в Царское в 10¼. Все общество сидело у Аликс в спальне!

23-го ноября. Четверг.
... У дорогой Аликс была легкая лихорадка, вероятно, от простуды. ... После ванны маленькой Аликс имела свою первую ванну и затем была уложена в постель. Элла обедала с нами, вечер провели как всегда.

24-го ноября. Пятница.
... Лихорадка у Аликс, слава Богу, прошла. Сегодня уже три недели что у нас родилась дочка — храни ее Господь!
... К обеду из Гатчины приехала милая Мама и Миша. Она провела с нами вечер до 10½ ч.

25-го ноября. Суббота.
... Завтракали вчетвером: Аликс, Ерни, Ducky и я. ... При ванне маленькой присутствовали доктора: Отт, Гирш и Коровин, последний будет приставлен к нашей дочке.

Праздник для меня был испорчен день, что дорогая Аликс осталась одна, и мы целый день провели в разлуке. ... Поехал в Царское около 9 ч. и вечер провел спокойно с душкой Аликс.

... Наша дочка становится все милее, она сегодня часто улыбалась нам, прелесть такая! ...

28-го ноября. Вторник.
... В первый раз Аликс выехала подышать свежим воздухом со мною; катались в парке полчаса. Погулял немного пешком. Пили чай и, наконец, провели вечер и обедали одни. Аликс опять купалась — теперь она будет по-прежнему принимать ежедневные соляные ванны.

... В 12½ ч. поехал покататься с Аликс в санях. Завтракали поэтому с хорошим аппетитом. ...

... После завтрака поехал с Аликс; катались в Павловске, куда мы уже давно вдвоем не заглядывали. Долго сидели вместе, и после чаю, как всегда, присутствовали при ванне дочки. Отт тоже был там; теперь он приезжает редко.

... Обедали вдвоем; вечером читал Аликс вслух, когда она лежала в постели.

Погулял с полчаса и вернулся к 11 ч., когда Аликс кормила нашу душку. ...

На весь день простился с моей душкой Аликс и в 10¼ ч. поехал с Митей в Гатчино. ...

Выпив чаю, уехал назад в Царское. Читал и сидел у дорогой Аликс до 10½ ч. Обедали вместе.

... Маленькая спала сегодня всю ночь ни разу не просыпаясь. ... Завтракали с д. Алексеем. Совершили вдвоем с Аликс первую прогулку пешком. Долго и много читал до и после чаю. Вечером играли в четыре руки.

5-го декабря. Вторник.
... Подарки от душки Аликс [получил] в своей уборной в 7½. Обедали большим обществом, после чего опять получил подарки от всех.

6-го декабря. Среда.
... Обедали большим обществом. ... Принялись возиться, как маленькие дети, на горе, а затем на доске. Пили чай вчетвером с Ерни и Ducky.

7-го декабря. Четверг.
Утром погулял с новым моим псом, которого я думаю назвать — Иман. Занимался до самого завтрака, к которому приехал Костя благодарить за образа, поднесенные 1-му батальону Преобр[аженского] и Вторично гулял один после недлинного катания Аликс. Обедали вместе с д. Павлом. В 9¼ повезли Ерни и Ducky на ж. д., где мы простились с ними. Скучно, что уже так скоро им приходится возвращаться к себе! Д. Павел пил с нами чай.

8-го декабря. Пятница.
... Катался с Аликс и затем погуляли вдвоем. Писал и много читал. Обедали одни и играли в четыре руки.

10-го декабря. Воскресенье.
... Завтракал с Аликс и провели весь день совсем одни. Катались, гуляли пешком. После чаю долго занимался, вечером играли в 4 руки и я читал для себя.

11-го декабря. Понедельник.
... Дядя Алексей завтракал с нами. Катались в Павловске, дорога была лучше, так как за ночь выпало много снегу. Погуляли еще. Читал. Разбирал старые письма до обеда.
Вечером играли в 4 руки.

12-го декабря. Вторник.
... Вернулся в Царское к 5-ч. После обеда отлично покатались вдвоем по городу.

13-го декабря. Среда.
... В 2¼ ч. поехали в Большой дворец. Маленькая поехала вперед с Гюнст; и мы с нею на руках вошли Церковь. Янышев прочел молитвы и поднес ее к Царским дверям. Я так рад, что дорогая Аликс будет опять ездить со мною к обедне, по истечении 40 дней! Катались и гуляли. Много читал. После обеда покатались еще и затем разбирали подарки на Елку офицерам.

14-го декабря. Четверг.
... Сделали хорошую прогулку пешком. Пили чай с т. Михень. Она присутствовала при ванне дочки.

После обеда покатались в санях и окончили раскладку подарков.

15-го декабря. Пятница.
... Завтракали одни. Погода стояла холодная с свежим ветром. Погуляли вместе. К чаю приехали: Мама, Миша и д. Владимир. Читал до обеда. Провели вечер с Мама до 10½ ч. Проверив вчерашние подарки офицерам, вернулись к себе и стали готовиться к ночлегу.

16-го декабря. Суббота.
... После доклада Ванновского поехал с Аликс в Петербург; в первый раз после рождения дочки выехали из Царского вдвоем. Завтракали у Ксении и Сандро с Митей (деж.) В 2 часа пошли в Эрмитаж, где устроен большой международный базар, состоящий под покровительством Аликс. Было слишком много дам, которые мешали рассматривать вещи. Вернулись в наши комнаты; Аликс их еще не видала и поэтому мы их осмотрели во всех подробностях. В 4½ уехали в Царское. Читал. Обедали с Митей.

17-го декабря. Воскресенье.
... Дорогая Alix была в беспокойстве, потому что приезд новой няни-англичанки меняет некоторым образом порядок нашей семейной жизни: дочке придется переехать наверх, что довольно скучно и жаль!

18-го декабря. Понедельник.
... Аликс принимала дам; мы вместе приняли депутацию Уральских казаков, привезших икру и балык. Гуляли и ругали погоду. После чаю сам мыл дочку в ванне. ...

19-го декабря. Вторник.
... Сегодня дочка переехала наверх в детскую — дай Бог в добрый час! Читал. Обедали вчетвером и провели вечер вместе.

20-го декабря. Среда.
... Хорошо погуляли вдвоем. После чаю присутствовали при ванне дочки; няня — Mrs. Inman — купала ее. Простились с доброй Гюнст, которая пробыла у нас почти — яко три месяцы! После обеда играли в 4 руки.

21-го декабря. Четверг.
... После чаю, как всегда, была ванна дочки; Аликс купала ее. Вечером поиграли на фортоплясах и затем я продолжал очень интересное чтение подробного отчета Духовского о Приамурском крае.

... Дядя Павел пил чай и обедал с нами.

23-го декабря. Суббота.
... Завтракали с Сергеем (деж.). ... Покатались вдвоем. ...

Обедали и провели вечер втроем.

24-го декабря. Воскресенье.
Были у обедни и завтракали одни. Готовили подарки друг другу. В 4 часа поехали в Гатчино. ... Пили чай с Мама, с Ксенией и Сандро. В 6½ пошли ко всенощной и затем была общая Елка в белой комнате Марии Феодоровны. ... После обеда вернулись в Царское, где мы устроили свою маленькую Елку с душкой женой. Вечером пришлось почитать.

25-го декабря. Понедельник.
В 11 час. поехали к обедне, после которой был отслужен молебен в воспоминание нашествия галлов и с ними дванадесяти язык[ов]. Сели завтракать с семейством Владимировичей в 12½ ч. ... В 3 ч. поехали в придворный манеж на Елку Конвоя и Сводного батальона. Как всегда были песни, пляски и балалайки. ... После чаю зажгли маленькую елку для дочки и рядом другую для всех женщин Аликс и детской. Вечер провели как всегда.

26-го декабря. Вторник.
Утро было, к счастью, свободное. ... В 2½ ч. отправились в манеж на Елку второй половины Конвоя и Сводного батальона. После раздачи подарков смотрели опять на лезгинку и пляску солдат. ... Сегодня взвешивали дочку — в ней около 12½ фунтов. После обеда покатались. ...

27-го декабря. Среда.
Утром была отличная погода... Кроме обычного доклада были еще: Пратасов и д. Миша с Плеве. Он завтракал с нами.

Долго катались по Павловску. В 4½ была Елка офицерам; бедная Аликс, понятно, смущалась разговаривать со всеми! После ванны дочки читал. Вечером еще раз покатались.

28-го декабря. Четверг.
... Вместо доклада Сипягина приехал Победоносцев. После завтрака Аликс принимала, затем пошли вдвоем гулять. Разбирали вместе и приводили в порядок все мои старые письма. Читал. Вечером начали уже укладываться.

29-го декабря. Пятница.
... Завтракали довольно поздно. Пошли гулять; погода была недурная в смысле мороза и ясная. После чаю читал. Комнаты достаточно опустели и глядят унылыми! Невесело уезжать из милого Царского, где мы более трех месяцев прожили тихо и счастливо.

30-го декабря. Суббота.
... Завтракали: д. Алексей и Митя (деж.). В 2¾ ч. простились с милым Царским и сели в поезд, с кот. Мама приехала из Гатчины. Со станции в Питере поехали прямо в Зимний в наши новые комнаты. В библиотеке отслужили молебен, все комнаты, наши и детские, были окроплены. ... Мама и Ксения посетили нас. Много читал. Обедали вдвоем. Вечером еще читал. ...

31-го декабря. Воскресенье.
Оба спали прекрасно на новоселье. ... В 11 час. поехали в Аничков к обедне; странно себя чувствовать там гостями! После завтрака сошли в наши старые комнаты и выбрали все картины и фотографии и последние вещи, какие еще оставались, для перевозки их тоже в Зимний. Днем сидели у себя и приводили все в порядок. Ксения принесла Ирину к ванне дочки. В 7½ поехали к молебну в Аничков и обедали с Мама.

Сейчас наступает Новый Год! Дай Бог, чтобы он прошел так же мирно, тихо и счастливо для нас и для матушки России, как предыдущий.

November 3. Friday.
An eternally memorable day for me, during which I suffered greatly! At one in the morning, dear Alix began to have pains that would not allow her to sleep. All day she lay in bed in great agony — the poor thing! I could not look at her indifferently. At about 2 o'clock dear Mama arrived from Gatchina; the three of us, myself, her and Ella, were relentlessly with Alix. At 9 o'clock exactly, we heard a child's squeal, and we all breathed freely! During prayer, we named our daughter Olga, who was sent to us by God! When all the anxiety passed, and the horrors ended, a simply blissful state began at the realisation of what had happened! Thank God, Alix got through the birth well and felt cheerful in the evening. I ate late at night with Mama, and when I went to bed, I fell asleep instantly!

Although Alix slept little during the night, she felt well. Obviously I was present at our daughter's bath. She is a big baby, 10 pounds and 55 centimeters in length. I can hardly believe that this is our child! God, what happiness! ... Alix spent the whole day lying in the mauve room for a change of air. She felt good, the little darling too. ...

The night was great — no fever. After my daughter's bath, I went for a walk. ... Alix again spent the day in the second room, our daughter lay next to her.
There was the first try at breastfeeding, which ended with Alix very successfully beginning to feed the wetnurse's son, and the latter gave milk to Olga. Hilarious! ...

The night went well, Alix slept very well. ... Alix slept with our daughter in her arms during the day. ... Drank tea with Alix. ...

A nice, happy and clear day! Before breakfast, dear Alix was allowed to leave her bed and go to the couch in the mauve room, where she remained to lie all day. ... I drank tea at the same time with Alix, who then fed the little one. I read.

The morning was bright and quite festive. At 10¾ our daughter was taken in a golden carriage to the Big Palace. A procession to the church began from the Silver Hall; I went with Mama — Princess M. M. Golitsyna was carrying our daughter. I sat alone in a room behind the church while the baptism was taking place. Everything went well, and the little darling behaved, it turns out, exemplarily. The service ended at 1½, and we returned home only at 2 o'clock. Embracing Alix, I sat down for a family breakfast.

... Drank tea with Alix; she spent the evening first in an armchair and then in bed. ...

... Sat with Alix while she fed; but the little one refuses to suckle without a struggle, which obviously tires them both. ... In the evening, as usual, I sat with Alix.

We got up quite early. At 9¾ I went to the station to meet Ernie and Ducky, whom I brought directly to Alix. She had barely got dressed. We haven't seen each other in exactly a year, but met the parents! We put them in my old rooms. ... The four of us drank tea. We dined at 3 o'clock and spent the evening in various activities.

... I sat with Alix, who rode in a mobile chair and even visited me.
We drank tea and dined in the same room; the first time Alix also ate with us, only at a special table. I read in the evening.

... Alix rode out in her chair for the first time and rode all over the palace to Ernie's rooms. ...

Misha's birthday and name day: he is 17 years old. Quite a busy day — there were two reports and a big reception. We had breakfast in addition to the household members: Aunt Miechen and Uncle Misha. Almost never seeing Alix, I went to Gatchina. Sat almost all the time with Mama.

After tea I studied in my little room; it was so strange to recognise oneself as a father!

We dined downstairs: Xenia, Misha, Sandro and Cherevin. Returned to Tsarskoe at 10¼. The whole company was sitting with Alix in the bedroom!

... Dear Alix had a slight fever, probably from a cold. ... After the little one's bath, Alix had her first bath and then was put to bed. Ella dined with us, the evening was spent as usual.

... Alix's fever, thank God, has passed. Today is already three weeks that our daughter was born — God bless her!

... Dear Mama and Misha arrived from Gatchina for dinner. She spent the evening with us until 10½.

... The four of us had breakfast: Alix, Ernie, Ducky and me. ... Doctors were present at the little one's bath: Ott, Hirsch and Korovin, the latter will be assigned to our daughter.

The holiday was spoiled for me by the fact that dear Alix was left alone, and we spent the whole day apart. ... I went to Tsarskoe at about 9 o'clock and spent the evening quietly with my dear Alix.

... For the first time, Alix went out for a breath of fresh air with me; we rode in the park for half an hour. Walked a bit. Drank tea and finally spent the evening and dined alone. Alix bathed again — now she will continue to take daily salt baths.

... Received presents from darling Alix in my dressing room at 7½. We dined in a large company, after which I again received gifts from everyone.

... We dined in a large group. ... Began to mess around, like little children, on the mountain, and then on the board. The four of us drank tea with Ernie and Ducky.

In the morning I took a walk with my new dog, which I think to call Iman. I studied until breakfast, to which Kostya came to thank for the images presented to the 1st Preobrazhensky battalion, and for the second time Alix walked alone after a short ride. We dined together with Uncle Pavel. At 9¼ we took Ernie and Ducky to the railway. where we said goodbye to them. It is boring that they have to go back to their place so soon! Uncle Pavel drank tea with us.

... Rode with Alix and then walked together. I wrote and read a lot. We dined alone and played four hands.

... Had breakfast with Alix and we spent the whole day all alone. We rode and walked. After tea, I studied for a long time, in the evening we played 4 hands and I read to myself.

... Uncle Alexei had breakfast with us. We rode in Pavlovsk, the road was better, as a lot of snow fell during the night. We walked some more. Read. I sorted through old letters before luncheon.

... Returned to Tsarskoe by 5 o'clock. After lunch we had a great ride around the town.

December 13. Wednesday.
... At 2¼ we went to the Grand Palace. The little one went ahead with Günst; and we entered the Church with her in our arms. Yanishev read the prayers and brought it to the Imperial Doors. I am so glad that dear Alix will again go with me to Mass after 40 days! We rode and walked. I read a lot. After dinner, we went for another ride and then sorted out Christmas presents for the officers.

Note: After giving birth, a woman could only go back to church 40 days afterwards.

... Went for a good walk. We drank tea with Aunt Miechen. She was present at our daughter's bath.

After lunch we went for a ride in the sleigh and finished the arrangement of gifts.

December 15. Friday.
... We had breakfast alone. The weather was cold with a fresh breeze. We walked together. To tea arrived: Mama, Misha and Uncle Vladimir. Read before lunch. We spent the evening with Mama until 10½. ... After Vannovsky's report, I went with Alix to Petersburg, for the first time since the birth of our daughter we left Tsarskoe together. We had breakfast with Xenia and Sandro with Mitya (dej.). At 2 o'clock we went to the Hermitage, where there is a large international bazaar, which is under the auspices of Alix. There were too many ladies who made it difficult to see things. Returned to our rooms; Alix had not yet seen them, and therefore we examined them in every detail. At 4½ we left for Tsarskoe. Read. Dined with Mitya.

December 17. Sunday.
... Dear Alix was worried because the arrival of a new English nanny changes the order of our family life in some way: our daughter will have to move upstairs, which is rather boring and a pity!

December 18. Monday.
... Alix ... received the ladies; together we received a deputation of the Ural Cossacks, who brought caviar and salmon. We walked and cursed the weather. After tea, I myself washed my daughter in the bath. ...

December 19th. Tuesday.
... Today our daughter moved upstairs to the nursery — God give her good luck! Read. The four of us dined and spent the evening together.

December 20th. Wednesday.
... We had a good walk together. After tea we were present at our daughter's bath; the nanny — Mrs. Inman — was bathing her. We said goodbye to good Gunst, who stayed with us for almost three months! After dinner we played 4 hands.

December 21st. Thursday.
... After tea, as always, there was our daughter's bath; Alix bathed her. In the evening we played fort dances and then I continued reading a very interesting detailed report of Dukhovsky on the Amur region.

... Uncle Paul drank tea and dined with us.

... We had breakfast with Sergei (dej.). ... Rode together. ...

We dined and spent the evening together.

December 24th. Sunday.
We were at mass and had breakfast alone. Prepared gifts for each other. At 4 o'clock we went to Gatchina. ... We drank tea with Mama, with Xenia and Sandro. At 6½ we went to the vigil and then there was a common Christmas tree in the white room of Maria Feodorovna. ... After lunch we returned to Tsarskoe, where we arranged our little Christmas tree with my darling wife. I had to read in the evening.

December 25th. Monday.
At 11 o'clock we went to mass, after which a moleben was served in remembrance of the invasion of the French and with them twenty language[s]. We sat down to breakfast with the Vladimirovich family at 12½ o'clock ... At 3 o'clock we went to the court arena to the Christmas party of the Convoy and the Consolidated Battalion. As always there were songs, dances and balalaikas. ... After tea, we lit a small Christmas tree for our little daughter and next to it another one for all Alix's ladies and the nursery. The evening was spent as usual.

Note: moleben (молебен) = prayer service in the Russian Orthodox Church.

December 26th. Tuesday.
The morning was, fortunately, free. ... At 2½ hours, the second half of the Convoy and the Consolidated Battalion went to the arena for the Christmas party. After the distribution of gifts, we again looked at the lezginka and the dance of the soldiers. ... Our little daughter was weighed today — she is about 12½ pounds. We rode after luncheon. ...

December 27th. Wednesday.
The weather was excellent in the morning... In addition to the usual report, there were also: Pratasov and uncle Misha and Plehve. He had breakfast with us.

We rode around Pavlovsk for a long time. At 4½ there was a Christmas party for the officers; poor Alix, of course, was embarrassed to talk to everyone! I read after our little daughter's bath. Rode again in the evening.

December 28th. Thursday.
... Instead of Sipyagin's report, Pobedonostsev arrived. After breakfast Alix received, then the two of us went for a walk. We sorted together and put in order all my old letters. I read. In the evening we started packing up.

December 29th. Friday.
... We had breakfast quite late. We went for a walk; the weather was not bad in the sense of frost, and clear. I read after tea. The rooms are quite empty and look dull! It is sad to leave dear Tsarskoe, where we have lived quietly and happily for more than three months.

December 30th. Saturday.
... We had breakfast: uncle Alexei and Mitya (dej.). At 2¾ o'clock we said goodbye to dear Tsarskoe and boarded the train with which Mama came from Gatchina. From the station in St. Petersburg we went straight to the Winter Palace and to our new rooms. A moleben was served in the library, all the rooms, ours and the children's, were sprinkled. ... Mama and Xenia visited us. I read a lot. We dined together. I read more in the evening.

December 31st. Sunday.
We both slept perfectly at the housewarming. ... At 11 o'clock we went to Anichkov for Mass; it's strange to feel like guests there! After breakfast we went down to our old rooms and chose all the pictures and photographs and the last things that still remained, to transport them to the Winter Palace as well. During the day we sat at home and put everything in order. Xenia brought Irina to our little daughter's bath. At 7½ we went to the moleben at Anichkov and dined with Mama.

Now the New Year is coming! God grant that it passes as peacefully, quietly and happily for us and for Mother Russia as the previous one.
